Do clear labels work on all packaging types?

Clear labels stick best to clean, smooth surfaces like glass, plastic and metal. How visible your design is depends on the color behind the label, so add white ink under key parts on dark or colored packaging.

Clear labels on different packaging

Clear labels stick best to clean, smooth surfaces such as glass jars, plastic bottles, metal tins and glossy boxes. They also work on other surfaces, but adhesion is strongest on smooth ones.

The background affects your design

A clear label lets the packaging show through, so the color behind it changes how your design looks.

  • Light or white packaging: Colors and text show clearly.

  • Dark, strongly colored or textured packaging: The design can be hard to see. Add white ink behind key elements such as text and logos to keep them visible.

Test first

If your packaging has a strong color or a matte finish that could affect how clear the label looks, test a sample first. Read more about samples of our materials and bottle labels.
