What's the difference between kiss-cut and die-cut stickers?

The difference is the cut. Kiss-cut stickers are cut through the sticker layers only, so the backing stays around the design and makes peeling easy. Die-cut stickers are cut through the backing too, so each sticker follows the exact shape of your design.

Kiss-cut vs die-cut stickers

Kiss-cut and die-cut stickers can be made with the same materials, finishes and print quality. The only difference is how they are cut.

Kiss-cut

The cut goes through the finish, material and adhesive, but not through the backing liner. The sticker sits on a piece of backing that is larger than the design, which makes it easy to peel, handle and hand out. The extra backing around the design can also carry secondary information such as a logo or care instructions.

Die-cut

The cut goes through every layer, including the backing liner. Each sticker is a standalone piece with the exact contour of your design.

Which one should I choose?

  • Choose kiss-cut when easy peeling and handling matter, for example for giveaways, retail or intricate shapes

  • Choose die-cut when you want the sticker itself to be the final presentation

Both are available from 2.5 × 2.5 cm (1 × 1 in) up to 27.5 × 27.5 cm (10.8 × 10.8 in). Want several different designs on one backing? That is a Sticker Sheet. Read more in Die-cut, kiss-cut and through cut explained or look up the terms in the Dictionary.
